However given the benefits of treatment abroad this industry has become very lucrative and almost each country is trying to attract medical travelers. Thus it’s very much likely that you can fall into bad hands thus making medical trip a nightmare.

Now question arises how to choose the right hospital, doctor and country for treatment abroad? One must research all the option available and then shortlist one carefully. Before you think of final a country for medical tourism consider following pointers:

  • Distance: Check you how much your medical condition allows you to travel and what the transport condition is in the destination country? If both these conditions satisfies you then you can proceed and check out other factors.

  • Language: Does the staff understand English or your native language. In case the staff is non-English speaking then you must ask the hospital if they have or can arrange some translators for you. Until and unless you have very clear communication with your doctor, treatment can be lethal.

  • Certifications: Certification and accreditation by national and international bodies gives the confidence that the hospital follows and maintains a standard in hygiene and patient care. Always select an internationally accredited hospital.

  • Doctor’s qualifications: It’s very important that the doctors are highly qualified and highly experienced. It’s more than welcome if the doctor is trained or has practices in western countries.

  • Hospital Specialty: Every hospital is specializes in an area it’s not worth if you go for kidney treatment in a hospital specialized for bariatric surgery.

  • Mode of payments: Do the hospital accept payment in cash or in electronic form.

  • Testimonials: Seek the testimonials of other foreign patients.

  • Legal issues: Check for any legal issues etc. E.g. in case of surrogacy you may have to know in advance what legal process are involved and do the hospital or clinic provide any assistance with this.

  • Length of Stay: How long are you required to stay and what’s the quality of hospital accommodation? Do hospital allow for stay of someone accompany the patient etc.

  • Success Rate: Compare the success rate of doctor and hospital for the procedure with others in the same or other country.

  • Post treatment care: Are there any follow up treatment, consultation required and is the costs already covered on not.

I hope this will help you and prove to be a better guide in selecting the right destination, hospital and doctors for your medical trip.

In case of any further help, please don’t hesitate to ask.
